GLENDALE PUBLIC ART MASTER PLAN

Community Outreach + Engagement, Arts + Culture Master Plan

Under the direction of the City of Glendale’s Arts & Culture Commission, an advisory group to the Glendale City Council on arts and culture policies, I managed the campaign conceptualization, community engagement, multi-lingual marketing, data collection, analysis and reporting of the City’s first Public Art Master Plan. Working alongside the nation’s leading public art expert, Barbara Goldstein, the Plan provides a blueprint for how the City should spend over $6 million to continue to enrich the experience of its growing numbers of residents and visitors, and enhance the quality of life and local economy in the built environment through arts and culture. The comprehensive strategy included the distribution of postcards, posters, stickers, and other collateral, presentation at community events and meetings, directing an advisory committee, writing and distributing press releases, producing citywide meetings, managing the interactive mapping website, and considerations for integrating public art opportunities into City departments and existing neighborhood revitalization plans.

Recommendations included commissioning temporary and permanent opportunities for the rich, untapped potential of the existing pool of local artists in the city, allocating funding to maintain existing public art, and expanding the City's administrative committment to the arts with a Cultural Affairs Department. The Glendale City Council adopted the Public Art Master Plan in August 2018 and released a Request for Qualifications (RFQ) to commission ten permanent artwork installations in August 2021.
